I have been an avid reader since I was old enough to hold a book -
that's my longest standing hobby by a huge stretch. I still read
20-30 books a year. I've picked up and put down many hobbies
over the years, but reading has stuck with me.
I've been a cook/baker and enjoy putting together a good meal or
trying a new recipe and stretching my skills and comfort level a
bit.
I love games and spending quality time with people. I'm not much
for video games, except for family Mario Kart, but I'll try any
board or card game you've got. I loved playing D&D and
cooperative storytelling games though I haven't played regularly
in years.
I've also been a musician since I could make noise. I play piano
and guitar, and do a passing impersonation of someone who can
competently play violin, drums, and clarinet. I'm also singer and
have been in several bands throughout my life, though I currently
sing only for fun. I believe that a house full of music is a happier
place to be.
Lastly, I'm a nerd and embrace the label. I love learning about
anything anyone is willing to teach me. I've always been a
pursuer of knowledge. I've got a list of science and information
podcasts I listen to regularly, and I firmly believe that you should
never stop learning all that you can.
These days I bike and keep myself active in the in-between
spaces of my life with young kids. I've always loved moving my
body and I feel it's a very important part of my life. I love
spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, wandering...they're all
good.
I love dancing. I played softball from age 9 through my twenties,
though less competitive once I turned 14. I was a distance runner
before I had kids - now I stick to 5ks and fun runs mostly.
I've dabbled in many sports and I've always had the attitude that,
if it sounds fun it's worth trying.

I would describe my personality as optimistically analytical. I
enjoy researching, understanding how systems work, and finding
solutions. I like having a plan and seeing that plan executed. I am
the parent that, for a brief moment prior to our children getting
their first bikes, will be among the foremost experts in bikes in the
local area after dozens of hours of exploring theory, practice, and
the minutiae of how a child's first bike may work.
I'm slow to anger and have a strong disdain for violence.
I love a corny joke or a clever pun, especially presented to my
children.
My partner would claim I have no shame, no sense of anxiety of
what strangers in public may think of me. She would be correct.
I'm comfortable and confident in who I am, all the good and the
bad. It's a quality I'm mindful to pass on to my children.
I have a talent for coming up with creative solutions to insolvable
problems and the ability to see how the many intricate parts of
something complex fit together to create the whole. I've
leveraged this into a career as a problem solver, specifically with
large data sets and a hobby as a tinkerer.
