The Last of Us

Letter

INTRO LETTER

We want to start off by thanking you for considering us as a potential match. We know that there are many other couples and individuals out there who also want to grow their families, and we appreciate you taking the time to get to know us.

About A & K - We have been together for 14 years, married for 7. As cheesy as it sounds, we really are best friends. We cook dinner together almost every night and do at least one date night per week. We have two dogs, Cosmo & Cannoli, and we love to go on family walks in the park and just talk to each other about our day. We share a lot of the same interests, but we also have core relationships with our own friends to give each other space when needed. We love sports, both watching and playing, and have been on the same recreational volleyball team for too many years than we'd like to count. We are eachothers person to call when there is good, bad or funny news to share. We are life partners and we're proud of the life we've built together so far and cant' wait for our next adventure as parents.

Our Fertility Journey - We, like many couples today, decided to put off family planning to focus on finishing our degrees and advancing in our careers. Little did we know that we would struggle down the road; guess that's why they say hindsight is 20/20. We started our fertility journey in 2020 (great timing, I know, right?). After a year of trying, we finally got pregnant in 2021, but it unfortunately ended in an early-term miscarriage. We decided then to seek fertility help, and they suggested we try a few rounds of IUI treatments, all of which were unsuccessful. We did our first and only round of IVF in 2022, and that resulted in zero viable embryos.

We took our time to grieve, and after several months, decided we would open our hearts and minds to adoption. We never felt like we needed to have biological children to start a family, and we still believe this today. We learned quickly that the complexities surrounding infant adoption in the U.S. are vast. We were on a wait list for 1.5 years and had two failed adoptions, both times the birth mothers decided to parent after long journeys communicating. We were devastated but happy that the families could remain intact. Adoption can be a very beautiful thing, regardless of our experience we fully support it when you choose an ethical agency who put birth moms first. For us, we have chosen to seek embyro adoption soley for the purpose of being able to form that early bond with our child. Being able to carry them, provide prenatal care and loving and safe environment would be a dream come true for us.

A New Hope (is that a Star Wars movie?) - Fast forward about a year, and we learned about embryo adoption from our fertility clinic, who suggested that K would be a great candidate. To imagine myself pregnant after all these years flooded me with joy. When we first learned of embryo adoption, it felt like such a good match for our situation. We are licensed to adopt and have done so much research and planning for adoption that we feel very comfortable with adopting embyros. We have also had extensive conversations about what type of openess we would like and we are comfortable with all scenarios around open, semi, and closed contact.

Family, Friends & Traditions - We have strong relationships with family and friends, all of whom have been so incredibly supportive of our journey to become parents. We have a big extended family, spread all across the U.S. We spend all holidays with our families and try to do a couple of trips per year together. One of our favorite holiday traditions is going into the national forest and cutting down our own Christmas tree each year. We know our future children are going to be loved and cherished beyond measure. Almost all of our friends and family our age have children, so there will be no lack of family to surround them with love and memories.

Our Passions & Hobbies - We love to travel and have been to 30 different countries. This is something we are eager to share with our future children. We believe that traveling helps to keep things in perspective and fosters a deep appreciation for other people and cultures that may be different than our own. We are so excited to go on adventures with our future children and help them stay curious and open to all the wonders of the world. Our other hobbies include hiking and camping. We are lucky enough to live a short drive away from the mountains, and during the warmer months, you will find us escaping to the mountaints to go camping and hiking as much as we can.

Our Home - We have a warm home and live in a great neighborhood near a medium-size metropolitan city. Our neighborhood is very walkable and is tailored to young families. During the summer, there are many block parties and events at our local park, where we spend a lot of our time. We live on a tree-lined street where kids play and come say hi to our dogs; Cosmo is somewhat of a local celebrity and stops for pets often. A normal evening would include us cooking dinner together, listening to music and sitting outside on the patio for dinner.

Work - We work to live, not live to work. K works from home and for a company that is consistently voted in the top 100 companies in the U.S. to work at for families. She loves her job and is comfortable in her career. A has been with the same company for over 15 years, a place where the coworkers really feel like family at this point. We both value the work we do but do not put work above our family; work-life balance is always our main priority.

Our Promise - Our promise to you is to make sure that our future children are raised in a loving, kind, and patient home. A home where they feel safe and can trust that we will be there for them no matter what. We will shower them with love and help guide them on a path to being good people. We will show them different places in the world to help them appreciate and accept differences. We will give them opportunities to become the best version of themselves. We promise we won't push our sports teams on them, even if they choose a rival team. We will bring them up in a light-hearted and loving home, and when the time is right, we will communicate and honor the love you had for them as well.

Thank you - We want to thank you again for taking the time to read through our journey. We are sure it is not completely unfamilar from your own in some ways. We hope you know how incredbile this gift is to any family looking to grow. We sincerly thank you for considering us.
