INTRO LETTER
Hello potential donors,
Our names are [Her name] and [His name] and we are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to be considered for matching. Like most couples or individuals who have struggled with infertility, our journey has been long and full of heartache, but we are so encouraged by individuals like you who would consider donating their unused embryos so couples like us could realize our dreams and start a family.
We met in 2013 in the occupational therapy graduate program at our university. Though we were in different cohorts, we had several overlapping classes that first year and we hit it off almost immediately. Early dates included eating tacos at a (and our soon-to-be favorite) local cantina, going to the movies, witnessing [Her name] lack of skills on the ice rink ,and [His name] attempts at dancing at local dance clubs together. Our love blossomed during the rest of our graduate studies, where, in addition to being diligent students of course, we enjoyed summer volleyball leagues, swimming in the lakes and rivers, tailgating at baseball games, road trips, and of course, even more tacos! We married in the fall of 2017 in an intimate ceremony with all of our closest friends and family in attendance.
Currently, we both are employed as occupational therapists. [Her name] is an outpatient certified hand therapist at a level-one trauma hospital where she has the ear of many of the region's top hand surgeons and provides exceptional care to patients with various hand injuries and conditions. [His name] is employed at a local school district of approximately 1,200 students, serving as the sole occupational therapist for the whole district and working with special education students with a wide variety of abilities and needs. [His name] also has many roles in sports and co-curriculars in his district, including high school play director, assistant musical director, forensics coach, middle school cross country coach and forensics coach, and elementary school run club advisor.
As a couple we share many different hobbies and interests. We love to travel and explore; for our honeymoon in 2018 we spent almost two weeks in Australia and would love to go back! You can find us outdoors almost every weekend in the summer as we love hiking with our 5-year-old chocolate labrador, Brie, who is eager to be a big sister! We have taken Brie to Colorado and Michigan for hiking trips; she didn’t enjoy the long car rides, but she loved hiking in the mountains. [Her name] has a passion for painting and baking; together we are fans of The Great British Baking Show, and [Her name] has challenged herself to make two bakes from the GBB cookbook every month. A former drummer, [His name] loves playing music and engages in making his own board games, which is something you can find us playing together or with a group of friends. Our friends and family have been beyond supportive during this process. [Her name] is looked at as “Auntie ...” to her best friend’s four-year-old and old-year-old children, and is a fixture at family dinners and birthdays; the four-year-old is especially excited when Auntie ... is the one who picks her up from daycare. Over the years, [His name] has formed close relationships with many of his students from the high school plays and musicals, and still meets up for the occasional dinner and catching up when they come home from college. We opened up our home to one student in particular who grew up with an unstable home life, and are supporting her during her time in college by getting her a part time job with [Her name], helping her to choose college classes and navigate young adulthood, and welcoming her at holidays throughout the year.
Our journey to have a baby together was, like many peoples’ plans, initially delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. We intended to start in the Spring of 2020, but thanks to those uncertain times we delayed it to the Spring of 2021. We were successful in getting pregnant after a few months and were promptly elated, but sadly that happiness was short lived as [Her name] suffered a miscarriage at six weeks pregnant. The loss and devastation was unbearable, as it would be to any intended parent. After five months we were pregnant again, this time with twins, which was a dream come true for both of us even though neither of us had a history of twins in our families. Unfortunately, that joy was also taken from us, as we had another miscarriage, this time at 10-weeks in April, 2022. Having gone through one miscarriage did not make our second any easier; if anything it was more excruciating. [Her name] had to undergo surgery to remove the fetal tissue (D&C). We continued to try and get pregnant again on our own for a full year, failing every month. From April - October 2023 we worked with a local fertility clinic and underwent four rounds of IUI, none of which were successful, even though the overwhelming majority of our tests and screening results came back within the normal ranges. Starting in November 2023 we began working with an out-of-state fertility company due to the fact our insurance did not cover IVF. Our egg retrieval resulted in two euploid and one mosaic embryos. Our first transfer in January 2024 ended in a chemical pregnancy. The hysteroscope and receptiva tests indicated a normal uterus and no presence of endometriosis or endometritis. In May 2024 we attempted to transfer our 2nd euploid embryo, but only two days before our transfer [Her name] was rear-ended on the highway, which resulted in a broken wrist and totaled vehicle. We still were able to complete our transfer after a short delay, but it also was unable to implant. We needed to wait until August for [Her name] wrist to heal due to the medications she was on, when we had our final transfer. Even though it was a mosaic embryo and had a smaller chance of success, this one not only successfully implanted but it also split into twins! We were again beyond thrilled at the opportunity for twins again. [Her name] labs and numbers continued to look great even through the 6-week ultrasound, where we saw that one twin had a strong heart rate of 120 BPM, however, the other trailed behind at 80 BPM. At our 7-week ultrasound, like every attempt before, we were met with the same heartache and pain of miscarrying our babies. We still had no explanation as to why we were going through this. We participated in a study through Yale University for recurrent miscarriages where they analyzed our DNA and the twin’s DNA, but like all of our reports and screenings before, the results did not show any reason for this to be happening. At this point we knew we needed help carrying a baby and through a friend, we were able to find a gestational carrier who has been amazing to work with. Having already spent an obscene amount of money on fertility treatments, [Her name] began working a second job at Starbucks starting in November 2024 because their insurance offers fertility benefits. She has been working between 50-55 hours a week at her two jobs since then, which has taken a physical toll on her body. Through a very slow process, we underwent a second egg retrieval in April 2025 and which resulted in two healthy embryos. We attempted implantation with our gestational carrier, first in November 2025 and then again in January 2026, both attempts resulting in chemical pregnancy.
After five years, nine miscarried babies, and countless tears, we would love to celebrate bringing a child into our lives via embryo donation. We are so very eager to add a baby into our lives and fill our house with even more joy and laughter. From experiencing different cultures and everything the world has to offer, helping them to grow and develop/pursue their own passions, and showering them with love and affection, we again thank you for your compassionate decision to help our family or another family like ours.
Sincerely,
