INTRO LETTER
Dear Donor,
Thank you for taking the time to read this. What you're considering doing is something I think about every single day.
My name is [Her name]. I'm a single woman living in [City], though I'm from [State], and I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. Life just took a long, winding road to get me here.
I spent ten years living outside the US. I've been to 83 countries. I speak French. I write for fun and get published sometimes, it's a huge passion of mine. I've learned more about people from traveling than from anything else in my life. I loved every second of it. But through all of it, I kept thinking: I want to show a kid this. I want to watch someone else discover what I discovered.
My mom passed away a few years ago. She had 9 brothers and sisters and was raised on a farm in [State]. She wanted them so badly. I have two older brothers. I think about my family a lot when I imagine becoming a mother.
I did five IUIs and six IVFs. I already know you understand what that means without me having to explain it. I went into this process knowing that if IVF didn't work, I would move on to donor embryos. That wasn't a backup plan I landed on reluctantly. It was always part of how I thought about this. I want a baby. I want to be someone's mom.
I want you to know what this child's life would look like. I own a two-bedroom condo in a nice area of [City]. There is already a room waiting. I'm financially stable, I've built that on my own through a career that's taken me through a lot of industries and taught me a lot. Right now I work in sales for a marketing agency and I genuinely love it. It uses the two sides of me that have always coexisted: the analytical and the people-person. I have a graduate degree and education is something I care about deeply. [City] public schools, when you're in the right ones, are the best in the country. I know this city and I know how to navigate it for a kid.
My dad and one of my brothers still live in [State], where I grew up. I love going back. We go bike riding, we tube down the [State2]. It's the kind of easy, unhurried time that I think kids need, and this child would grow up with that too. A city life and wide open space an hour and a half away. Best of both.
My father is still very much in the picture and we are very close. My dad and brother are pilots and my mom was a flight attendant. My other brother is a professor. My dad is now a multimillionaire, due to always saving and teaching me how to be smart with my money, and this child would be well taken care of. My father would support me financially.
I'll have help in the early years because I believe in doing this right. I also have a very large system of friends for support, many who are excited to be an auntie! I plan on joining groups of moms with adopted embryo babies and raise my child knowing these other kids. As a single mom I will pay for help in the beginning, and there are so many benefits in [City] to take advantage of with universal pre K. My dad and his wife will also help out! But more than any of the practical stuff, I just want you to know who I am. I'm someone who shows up. I'm someone who has fought hard for this.
If you choose me, I will spend the rest of my life being grateful. And your embryo will become a child who knows exactly how wanted they were, from the very beginning.
S.
