INTRO LETTER
I have always wanted a big family. I had a very large family growing up, surrounded by loving parents, aunts, uncles, sisters, and grandparents. My husband's father was adopted and it is something we have talked about our entire marriage. After our second biological child, we decided for my husband to have a vasectomy. We were sure we were not going to have any more biological children, yet were still interested in adopting a child (or two!). We started looking into traditional adoption, however could not settle on a type of adoption or an agency...not to mention we had seen so many of our friends go through horror stories throughout the adoption process. We came across embryo adoption during our search, and decided to look deeper into that concept. We feel very called to adopt in this way, rather than traditional.
Currently, our crazy little family consists of two loving and invested parents, two beautiful biological children (a boy and a girl), two dogs, fifteen chickens (egg layers), one turkey, and one bunny. We currently own a single family home in the suburbs, though you can imagine that we are always looking for land out in the country because of our love for animals. During the school year, our work weeks are busy in a balanced and healthy way. I am a homemake, and an entrepreneur working from home during the day, and three nights a week I get out of the house for a few hours to teach dance and fitness classes. My husband works more traditional hours teaching at a private school, serving the community as a pastor, and pursuing his PhD in education. Both of our kids attend private school full-time and take piano lessons, our daughter takes dance lessons, and as soon as he is old enough our son will enroll in basketball.
After a strictly regimented work week, we celebrate a non-negotiable “family day” on Saturdays! We all go do a workout (I typically take the kids with me to my fitness class, while my husband goes and lifts weights), then meet up for a late breakfast and to discuss potential plans for the day. Our top choices are bowling, going to the movies, board games, and Mario Kart, while sometimes we have birthday parties, weddings, or spontaneous road trips to visit friends or grandparents. Also non-negotiable, we go out to eat - this family loves food! We take turns getting to choose the restaurant we go to.
Sundays as a ministry family are hard work, but we accomplish it together! Our church family has really taken our kids under their wing, since both mom and dad serve in church every week. The hard work is rewarded on Sunday afternoons when we take the dogs for a walk, go on bike rides, play board games, and watch movies!
In the summer, schedules relax quite a bit and we are able to spend ample time together! Mornings usually consist of a home-cooked breakfast, some educational worksheets, piano practice, swim lessons/team, and chores. In the afternoon, however, it is fun in the sun! We purchase an all-season pass to the local swimming pool; check out free tickets from our local library to different zoos, museums, and events; and have s’mores in the backyard at night. We typically go on an international adventure, as well, usually somewhere in the Caribbean.
We are currently living an abundant and blessed life. We love sharing these gifts with our current children, but know we are called to share them with more. We are able to offer safety and security; adventures and memories; solid ethics, values, and morals; and a loving and nurturing environment to our children. Our kids are excited to share their love (and toys) with their future brother or sister as well!
REFERENCE LETTER 1
To whom it may concern,
This is a recommendation for our daughter and son-in-law regarding adoption. We are so very excited they have started this process as they’ve considered it for quite a while. It will be an honor to welcome another grandchild!
As our daughter’s parents, we have witnessed her personal growth and their growth as a married couple for almost 10 years. They are a great team and compliment each other perfectly. They are excellent parents to their 7 and 5 year old kids and are exceptional at communicating with their children and including them in a lot that they do. The parents are caring, loving and supportive of the activities the 7 and 5 year old are interested in trying.
Our daughter and her husband are very active in church and the community, along with their children. The 7 and 5 year old are very friendly and social which is much because of the example of their parents, who extend their love and friendship to everyone they meet. They are constantly furthering their own and their children’s education biblically and academically.
We completely support their decision to adopt. They will provide a wonderful home for another son or daughter! Thank you for your consideration in their adoption journey.
-Prospective Mother's Parents
REFERENCE LETTER 2
To Whom It May Concern,
We are writing this recommendation on behalf of our son and daughter in law. They have a
desire to adopt a child to provide him/her with a stable, loving, caring, and nurturing forever
family. We have been privileged to see this couple and their existing family grow into an
amazing family unit. We would like to share with you the reasons why we believe they would be
a wonderful adoptive family.
First, our son and daughter in law pour into the lives of their children in so many ways. They
take the time to guide their children in learning right from wrong. This is evident in the way their
children interact with others. People love to be around their children. People have made it a
point while the family has been in public settings to tell our son and daughter in law that it was a
pleasure to be around children with manners and nondisruptive behavior.
Not only have the children been guided with regards to right and wrong, but more importantly the
children have been guided to show empathy and caring to those around them. An example of
this occurred when the preschool teacher of one of the children experienced the loss of a loved
one. The child comforted the preschool teacher in such a way that she spoke of the impact the
compassion and caring of that child made on her during the child’s preschool graduation later
that year.
Our son and daughter in law are the biggest encouragers to their child. They encourage them to
pursue their giftings and talents. They guide them to many activities that expose them to new
possibilities. They encourage them to persevere when the activities may be hard.
Not only would our son and daughter in law be wonderful adoptive parents but their children
would be wonderful adoptive siblings. They would be very welcoming and loving to their new
brother or sister.
Another reason why this family would be a great family for any child is the fact that the parents
take time to not only strengthen their relationships with each child but they also take the time to
strengthen their relationship. They are very protective of their weekly date nights and weekly
family days.
Finally, this family is much loved and supported by their family, church family, and community.
The child they adopt will experience this same love as he/she becomes a part of this loving,
caring, stable and nurturing family.
-Parents of Prospective Father
REFERENCE LETTER 3
To Whom it May Concern,
We met the prospective parents 5 years ago at church when they moved to our community. After a year or so, we were asked by the prospective parents to meet with them periodically to provide an opportunity to ask us questions about our experiences related to marriage, parenting, and life in general. We were humbled and honored to do so, but we had no idea that was the start of an incredible friendship that has grown to the point of us now considering the prospective parents and their kids as part of our family.
The prospective parents are very special people, and together, they are an amazing couple. The first priority in their lives is their relationship with God. Their desire to follow Him and to be faithful and obedient to His call guides them in their marriage, parenting, and every aspect of their life. We have spent many hours with them and their young kids and have even traveled with them on several occasions. We have seen first-hand how they love and support their kids. They are present and interact with their kids consistently. When their kids do misbehave, the prospective parents appropriately correct the behavior, always with an attitude of building up and encouraging the kids, rather than tearing down.
We are very blessed to know the prospective parents as well as we do. We have no doubt they are wonderful parents. They have impacted our lives in many ways and we are sure they would do the same for another child.
Friends of the Prospective Parents
