Letter

INTRO LETTER

I came to parenthood by realizing in my 30s that I wanted to be a mother and have a family, and that while romantic love could come to me at any age, becoming a mother was somewhat time sensitive. I decided to pursue becoming a single mother by choice. At first, I sought fertility treatment and because of diminished ovarian reserve, nearly premature ovarian failure, in-vitro fertilization with donor sperm was recommended. I did two rounds, resulting in two mature eggs in the first round and only one in the second, and none resulted in any embryos by 24 hours. I had already heard of embryo donation through news stories previously and a part of me was always intrigued by the idea. I had even considered if my IVF had resulted in remaining embryos, I would want to donate. So, when this was presented as a possibility for me, I went for it with enthusiasm.  My daughter was the first donated embryo, untested, with a smooth pregnancy and now at 20 months old she is my delight. I have loved being a mother and being her mother. My only regret with the entire process was that at the time anonymous donation was presented as the only option without a chance for her to connect to her genetic origins until she is 18-years-old.  I hope that by pursuing embryo adoption there will be more opportunity for that kind of connection sooner for a future child, should it all work out.  My daughter and I live in the city with lots of young families and many libraries, museums, parks, ice cream and activities within walking distance. Even the pediatrician is only a few blocks away. We also belong to a small progressive church that we can walk to with many 'consider us an extra grandparent' members and babies/small children.  Even though we're only a little family, she has a baby-bestie only three weeks older she sees at least once a week and many unofficial aunties.  In terms of official family we are also very close: my house is a large rowhouse with an in-law suite where my brother lives. My mother and sister are a five-minute drive away, with distant family such as my grandmother at 100-years-young and cousins with small children an hours' drive.
I work as a women's health nurse practitioner part-time in an office (a twenty-minute commute by car) and part-time at home via telehealth, allowing me a lot of flexibility to take care of my family and thankfully a lot of close attention during pregnancy.

REFERENCE LETTER 1

I am thrilled to be writing this letter recommending one of my closest friends for fertility

treatment. I have known her for almost 10 years, so we have seen each other through all of

life’s ups and downs. Most importantly, I know from watching her with her current child that

she is an excellent mother.

I myself am childless, and have never had any interest in having children. Despite this, I was

very excited when I first heard that she was looking to become a parent. She is caring,

responsible, and above all – fun! Her daughter has already begun to show these qualities. I have

never met such a happy toddler. She laughs easily, is extremely confident, and is generally a

smiley and fun baby.

My friend has a good head on her shoulders, and always manages to do the right thing. She is

kind and supportive, but sticks to her values. She has a tight-knit family, that has proven to be a

good support system. I actually referred to her family as my second family during COVID, when I

had regular virtual paint nights with them!

Any children lucky enough to have her as a mother will grow up surrounded by people who love

them. She has proven that she will put her child first, while making sure to keep up with her

own emotional and physical well-being as well. It is for all these reasons that I highly

recommend her for fertility treatment.

REFERENCE LETTER 2

I’ve known Celia her entire life, and a substantial part of mine. She’s my sister, and one of the best people to know out there. She has a strong character, valuing honesty, clarity, and being fair to all, as well as caring deeply for all who are lucky to know her. In her line of work, she is a tireless advocate to help people with their healthcare needs as she has progressed in her career as a women’s health nurse practitioner. Celia loves being a mother and loves and adores her baby daughter. Whenever she is with her daughter, both are all smiles, laughter, silliness, and fun, with the biggest smiles on their faces. Baby is always thrilled when her mommy arrives to see her. No matter what her daughter is going through, or how she is behaving, Celia always shows up for her and to make sure baby’s needs are always addressed. She is always helping baby grow up and be a marvelous little human who is sweet, fun, kind, and gentle to all. She is also a wonderful dog mom to her two dogs, always making sure they are well taken care of, as they are always loved, have plenty of food and water, plus of course, pets and get outside for walks.

She is an excellent communicator, organized, thoughtful, and always believes in giving everything she attempts her full effort. Celia always holds herself to high standards, and works to advance herself through hard work and keeping on top of the high demands of working full-time, being a mom, maintaining a home, and supporting her family.

REFERENCE LETTER 3

To Whom It May Concern:

With great pleasure, I would like to recommend Celia Hearren for your embryo adoption program.

Celia is a lovely person. She is caring and kind to her family, which includes her 20 month old baby, a sister and brother, parents, and numerous cousins, as well as a 100 year old grandmother.  All of them know that if they are in need of any kind of help, or if they want to get together for fun, Celia will be there. She often takes time to go out with friends to parks, art galleries, or the zoo and she is an avid theater-goer. She took her grandmother, who was 97 at the time, to see Hamilton at the   Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.  Her grandmother still says it was one of the greatest times of her life.

Celia and her sister and I had often gone to some Paint Nite parties, and so when Covid shut everything down, we were able to find some art classes on YouTube, and Celia organized a group of us to do Paint Nite via Zoom.  It was one of the best things we could have done for ourselves during that year when everyone was confined to their homes.

She also has two dogs, both rescues, and she has been a great mommy to both of them.  One was a traumatized puppy mill mother. Because Celia gave her unlimited love and kindness, she adjusted to life with a family, although it took a long time.  The other rescue is a little blind dog, who was found abandoned on a country road. He, too, has settled into family life.

Most important in Celia’s family life, though, is her baby, Sabine. Celia had embryo transfer to achieve pregnancy, and has been a devoted and delightful mother.  Sabine is happy, beautifully cared for, and just adorable. Watching the two of them together there can be no doubt that Celia is totally in love with her baby!

On a professional level, Celia is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. She is knowledgeable and skilled in patient care, and is successful in her career.  I know she plans to continue her education to advance further in her field, but those plans are on hold while she has a young family.

In conclusion, I can  reiterate that Celia is a delightful young woman, and I recommend her unreservedly for your program.

Sincerely,

Jane E. Hearren
